Villa Puebla is a destination so special it was featured on the French television shows Échappées belles and Des racines et des ailes, and was recommended by leading travel guides like Routard, Lonely Planet, and The Michelin Guide. The villa was also featured in the Swedish magazine Gods och Gårdar, a testament to its charm and heritage.
Here, nature, art, and inspiration come together. This cozy home base will serve as your retreat for days filled with peaceful walks, long lunches in the village square, and quiet moments in the villa’s gardens. If you wish, start your mornings with gentle yoga or mindfulness led by a local teacher—no experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down and tune in.
Join celebrated textile artist Anna Bauer for a joyful deep dive into Hönsestrik—a playful, expressive knitting tradition from 1970s Denmark. Known for its bright colors, personal messages, and eclectic patterns, Hönsestrik is all about breaking the rules and following your imagination. It’s knitting as rebellion, joy, and art.
Each morning, Anna will guide you through themed sessions exploring the history, techniques, colors, and creative spirit of Hönsestrik. You’ll begin your own project—anything from a swatch to a sweater—and bring it to life in your own unique style. Afternoons are reserved for hands-on knitting and personal guidance, with plenty of time to relax, reflect, and be inspired by the nature and architecture around us.
Whether you’re looking to revive your creativity, deepen your craft, or simply try something new, this retreat offers a warm and welcoming space to do just that. Basic knitting skills are helpful, but no need to be a pro. This retreat is for everyone.
Anna Bauer is a Swedish textile artist and author of several books, including Hönsestrik – A Love Story and Hönsestrik Forever. Trained at the School of Design and Crafts in Gothenburg (HDK), Anna is known for her colorful, boundary-free approach to knitting that encourages expression, fun, and freedom. She believes knitting should be a joyous and creative experience, and she can’t wait to share her passion with you.
Two-ply wool yarn will be available for purchase, or feel free to bring your own. You’ll also need:
Circular needles (various lengths)
Double-pointed needles, sizes 2.5 mm and 3 mm (or suitable sizes for your yarn)

Securing Your Spot To reserve your place, a 20% non-refundable deposit is due upon booking confirmation. This deposit allows us to commit to our local partners and teachers. The remaining balance must be paid no later than 90 days before your arrival.
Travel & Insurance We highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover any unforeseen events, such as illness or personal emergencies, before or during your trip. We also suggest choosing flexible or refundable travel tickets.
Getting Here You are responsible for arranging your own travel. The most convenient airports are Nice, located approximately 3 hours from Villa Puebla or Marseille, located approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes from Villa Puebla.
To make your journey easier, we will connect you with other participants in a private group. This allows you to coordinate shared transportation and split the cost of the drive to the villa—we’re happy to provide tips and suggestions to help you plan!
